“SEE MY LIGHT NOW”: A MONOLOGUE ABOUT FAME + ACKNOWLEDGMENT | A DREAM CHASER’S ANTHEM BY PLAYWRIGHT, DIRECTOR, NOVELIST, HOLLYWOOD SCREENWRITER ANDREW OYE
SEE MY LIGHT NOW
(Excerpt from a story about the pursuit of fame and acknowledgment in the present.)
Life zooms by— twisting, fast-moving highways.
Racing to the top, few pause or glance sideways.
Destiny seekers rush the roads for their share,
Swarms too jaded to notice, too busy to care.
I wonder, standing on the verge of my dreams:
Is faith before fame as cold as it seems?
Who trusts my gifts without the world’s consent?
Who ignores me today ’til tomorrow’s ascent?
I take note of those who notice me now.
I toil in the dark, yet they see me somehow.
Acknowledge me once my name is in lights?
I’m blinded by loyalty— no stragglers in sight.
A “thank you” to my champions from day one,
Who gave a damn before stardom’s ride to the sun.
My love letter to those who loved me back then,
To friends who were friends when my journey began.
From mountain peaks, faces beam among crowds,
Familiar since kindred hearts speak just as loud.
I’ll recognize which rocks are truly different.
They supported my climb when doubters didn’t.
With the guts to respect my bloody claws,
With eyes keen enough to look past my flaws,
A soul with warmth in the absence of heat,
Arms wide enough to catch my falls from defeat.
Before the limelight shines…see me right now.
Slightest to brightest glow…see my light now.
Believers are bonfires that guide me through,
With the power of the simplest words: “I see you.”
Referring to SEE MY LIGHT NOW as “a dream chaser’s anthem,” Andrew Oye believes the sentiment expressed in the monologue resonates with individuals involved in any creative pursuit, as well as with their supporters who appreciate seeds of talent long before they bloom into harvests of greatness.
